I had a very upsetting and disappointing experience at this clinic. The vet told us that our dog most likely had leptospirosis and gave us two options: have him put to sleep or take him to a veterinary hospital in Cork. At the same time, we were told that he had very little chance of surviving and that treatment in Cork would be extremely expensive. I asked whether there were any other veterinary hospitals we could take him to, but was told that they only had a contract with the hospital in Cork. What concerned me most was that I did not feel our dog was properly examined before such a serious conclusion was reached. The vet said it was "probably leptospirosis" just from looking few min into dog and our vacination book, because we mist this vaccination in 2 years. I asked for blood tests because I wanted the diagnosis to be confirmed or ruled out before making an irreversible decision. Blood tests were carried out, but we were told they only checked liver and kidney function and that the clinic did not have the specific test for leptospirosis. Despite the diagnosis not being confirmed, euthanasia was suggested to us again. They were also reluctant to allow us to take our dog home because they believed the suspected leptospirosis could pose a danger. I told them that we were not going to have him put to sleep and that we would take him to another vet. Thankfully, that is exactly what we did. At another veterinary clinic, our dog was properly investigated and diagnosed with autoimmune anaemia, not leptospirosis. He received treatment, spent approximately a week in their care, and recovered. I paid €287 at City Vets for the 5 min consultation and tests and some drug from nausea. I paid €754 at the second veterinary clinic, but that included proper diagnosis and a week inpatient treatment that ultimately saved our dog's life. What troubles me most is not the money. It is the fact that euthanasia was suggested twice for a dog who was subsequently correctly diagnosed, treated and recovered. I completely understand that vets sometimes have to discuss euthanasia when an animal is seriously ill and that initial diagnoses can be uncertain. However, when euthanasia is being presented as an option, I believe every reasonable effort should be made to properly investigate and confirm the diagnosis first, particularly when the suspected diagnosis has not actually been confirmed. I am extremely grateful for other vet clinic. Had we accepted the recommendation in city vets given to us that day, our dog would not be here today. I also believe the clinic should make it much clearer on its website and to clients what diagnostic and treatment facilities it actually has available, particularly for seriously ill animals. Based on our experience, when our dog needed more advanced investigation and treatment, the options presented to us were referral to Cork or euthanasia. If a clinic is primarily equipped for routine veterinary care such as consultations, vaccinations and basic testing, while more complex cases need to be referred elsewhere, clients should be clearly informed of this. Pet owners dealing with a critically ill animal deserve to know these limitations before being faced with such a serious and irreversible decision.

Very disappointing experience. They seemed happy to charge for multiple treatments, but none of them helped. It felt like we were given false hope instead of honest advice about what the treatments could realistically achieve. The costs added up very quickly, and I left feeling like making money was a bigger priority than helping our animal. I wouldn’t recommend this clinic.

Customer of over 20+ years going elsewhere. I gave city vets another chance after 2 years ago our dog was actively dying at home and they “couldn’t” fit her in to be put to sleep humanely. She had to suffer for a further 24 hours. To which when we finally got in, they called my dog my name, then the incorrect name for the remainder of the appointment. Small issue but after being corrected and due to sensitivity of the appointment. Anyway, fast forward to now. Our dog had a suspected knee issue that needed surgery, injury happened over 1 week ago. We were told to wait 48 hours and if no improvement to call and he would be xrayed. 48 hours later, no improvement and they said to hold off until the following Wednesday. 5 days later and a week following the injury. Brought the dog down, no xray done after giving the dog meds for same. Told to come back 48 hours later for an xray, now being told his ACL MAY be torn. €160 later, none the wiser as to what is the issue with our dog. Called them this morning, mentioned all of the above to them, not even an acknowledgment of the xray being pushed out bla bla bla. If you care about your animals I would highly advise to go to a practice that cares about the animals and not the money. We were also quoted €240 for an xray which our new vets which has raving reviews is doing it for €100. Ever since city vets sold up to a UK company they are awful to deal with and are solely in it for the money as opposed to for the animals. I have transferred all of my animals data to a new vets and will not be returning.

I have been a client of City Vets since 1996. 28yrs of ongoing dedicated support and utter professionalism and care for my dogs all down through those years during the happiest and saddest of visits. When I had to say goodbye to my dogs it was handled with such care and compassion so appreciative of that, it made the whole experience more bearable. Not once in all that time have I ever been in any doubt of their duty of care towards my dogs or myself as their customer. All the staff go out of their way to make my dogs and I as comfortable and at ease about our visit and explain everything thoroughly to me. I cannot recommend City Vets highly enough to anyone considering joining them. Such a positive experience 🥰🥰🥰🥰
